New Years Resolution?

I’m doing it a little different this year. Instead of telling myself to workout 5 times a week or eat healthier (because let’s be real, haha), I made a goal to follow my instincts and believe in myself more. Maybe this will be the year I accomplish my goals and grow to be the person I want to be. Just maybe.

My whole life I have thought of myself as an independent person, but more and more I have been relying on and looking for approval from others before I do something. I second guess myself and feel the need to have other people behind me supporting me. And when I think about it, I think the reason for this is that I fear messing up and having no one there to catch me. But really, what do I have to lose if I mess up? Because of this fear, though, I have limited myself from doing what I really want.

This year I want to have more faith in myself. I still want to have support from others, and I know I will have certain people in my life that will always be there to catch me if I fall, but it starts with me. It’s time for me to take what I want and get it and its time to make progress.

. To reach my goal, I set myself three guidelines:

  1. Be honest with myself- Know what I want and be straightforward
  2. Be forgiving of myself- Accept failure and always keep pushing forward
  3. Be bold- let it be known what I want and do what it takes to get there.

So let’s see what happens. Maybe I will surprise myself.

What about you? What changes would you like to see this year?

P.S. I’m back! I forgot about this blog for awhile, but I would like to keep up with it again!

Role Models

Who do you most admire? A teacher, a friend, a boss, a celebrity, a parent? Whoever it may be I think it is very important that we all have a role model. Role models provide us with inspiration and motivation. They also guide us through life and help us find happiness.

By having the role models I have in my life I am constantly striving to improve who I am as a person. I want to be a person with morals, honor, and integrity. I want to create a life for myself where I don’t have to wake up everyday and drag my feet across the floor to get ready. The role models in my life have really helped shape the person I am proud to be today.

If I had to chose my role model, I would pick two people: My mom and one of my teachers (BL). These two people have made such an outstanding impact on my life and I couldn’t thank them enough. They have been by my side through thick and thin and always show me the light at the end of the tunnel.

My mom. She has been my teacher, counselor, role model, and friend for my whole life. My mom has taught me to always jump in with both feet and give it your all. My mom always tells me that its not about waiting for the storm to pass, but learning to dance in the rain. So mom, THANK you!! I love you with all my heart.

And now to the woman who has made school a place I want to be. You have shown me that hard work pays off and no matter what the situation is, I will get through it. Honestly, I don’t know how you deal with me on a daily basis with all the “problems” I come to you about. But thank you!! I most definitely would have gone crazy by now without you.

And of course, I would like to thank everyone else in my life who supports me and loves me unconditionally. I am so glad to have everyone be apart of this crazy journey I call life. I really hope everyone realizes how important they are to me.

Thanks for reading everyone!!

Now, in the comments tell me who your role model is and why!

Retweets and double taps.

This morning, I woke up to 4 Facebook notifications, 18 snapchat stories, 3 favorites on twitter, and 9 likes on instagram. I honestly felt proud. I felt as if I had accomplished something while I was sleeping, when in reality, I did nothing. This got me thinking, why does my generation obsess over how much attention we get online? Why do we care how many likes our pictures get or how many retweets and favorites we can get? Its almost as if we need everyone’s approval as to what we are doing every second of our life.

Social media has taken over our life. We are constantly updating our status, posting pictures, surfing the web, recording 6 second videos, and writing 140 character posts. The thing we don’t realize, is that we are slowly becoming more and more unaware of what is actually going on around us. Social media has caused us to become easily distracted, lose self respect, change our standards for friendship, and more!

Having friends is a very important part of being a living human being. Friends are the people we tell everything to and they still support us. However, social media is changing the way we socialize. We have the ability to get in touch with anyone and everyone in a matter of seconds; whether it be via text, Facebook, twitter, etc. With this being said, we are always communicating with each other. This means that when we are actually face-to-face with someone, we have nothing to talk about because we have already shared this information in a tweet or through text messages. And even when we are with a friend, they spend half their time staring down at their phone texting someone else who isn’t there, or scrolling through social media.

Another problem is our attention span. We all expect everything to be their at a moments notice. Our attention span is literally less than a goldfish. Ask a teenager when the last time they sat down and read a long article without being easily distracted. Actually, in the time it takes you to ask, they have probably gotten distracted and moved onto something else. We are all getting so used to reading short tweets and Facebook statuses and having everything simplified down for us to easily understand that when we have to actually read something, we give up.

So, my point is: Slow down, turn off the gadgets, and talk to someone face-to-face. Take a look around you and see the beauty in life. Read a book, hike a mountain, go get coffee with a friend, something! Just disconnect for awhile and enjoy what life has to offer.

YOU are my dream reader.

My daily blogging 101 challenge is to write a post to my “dream reader”. And to be honest, I’ve never really actually thought about who this is. When I sit down to write a blog I start writing about whatever is on my mind, almost like a diary, but open for everyone to read.

I blog for the person who needs someone to relate with. Trust me, I know what its like to feel lost and alone, even if you have people who are right by your side. It’s not always easy trying to figure your life out in this world and sometimes you just need to find someone who knows what you’re going through for advice. Id like to personally reach out to each and every one of you and say: if you ever need advice/help, don’t hesitate to ask me.

I blog for the person who needs a laugh. Hey, I’ll be the first to admit that my life can be pretty humorous at times! And don’t worry, I wont take offense if you laugh, I mean I laugh at it on a daily basis. I always tell myself that if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry.

I blog for the person who needs a little bit of motivation to get up and do something! More often than not my blogs will be about something that I have recently done/accomplished. Maybe this will spark a flame in you to do something great in your life before it is too late!

And most important, I blog for YOU. As long as one person gets something out of what I have to say, then I am happy. I want to inspire each and every one of you to do great things with your life because I know you are worth it. Everyone is special in their own way and I hope that by reading my blog you realize that it is OK to be who you really are, because that’s the only way you will be happy!

Question & Answer!!!

OK!! So, I thought that since this is only my second post, Id do something that would let you guys learn something about me. So, what better way than a simple game of question and answer…?!?! (Nothing.)

Here we go!:
1.)What is one of your favorite quotes?

“Today you are you, that is truer that true. There is no one alive who is Youer than you.” -Dr.Suess

I’ve always been a big believer in being yourself and doing what YOU enjoy. This quote says that you are you, and there is no one else like you in the world, so do whatever makes you happy.

2.) If you could pick an age to be for the rest of your life, what would it be?

17. Being a 17 year old, I can honestly say its the best age yet. Your not an adult yet, but your also not a child. Your old enough to go out and do things on your own while still having your parents there to take care of you. You have very limited responsibilities, your parents can help you when you need it, and by this point in your life you know what type of person you are. 17 is about having fun and living while your young.

3.) If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would do?

Well, I could go with the cliche answer and say “Donate it to charity”, but I want to do more than that. If I won the lottery, I would take my mom and myself to an in need country and help. Instead of just giving my money to someone else and saying “Hey, here’s a million dollars, do something with it.” id rather go somewhere and do it myself. But honestly, even if I don’t win the lottery, I still have plans to do this early in my life.

4.) What do you want to be when you grow up?

A special education teacher. Growing up with a learning disability, I know what its like to learn different than everyone else. Luckily, I realized early on that my L.D. isn’t something that going to go away, so I took it upon myself to learn how to work with it. And now, I’m an honor roll student! I’ve always enjoyed helping people and I have a background that will help me help others!

5.)What would you name the autobiography of your life?

“Lets do it”

Because hey, you only live once, so LETS DO IT!

6.) Whats the last book/movie/TV-show that made you cry?

Ellen DeGeneres book “Seriously… I’m kidding”. If you haven’t read it, then get in your car and go get it because it WILL change your life.

7.) What one thing would you change if you could do it over?

Nothing. Everything that has happened in my life has made me who I am today, and I wouldn’t change that for the world (but I would change it for a piece of cheesecake with a strawberry drizzle. Seriously… I’m Kidding. See what I did there?)

8.) How would your friends describe you?

I asked 5 of my closest friends and this is what they said: “Good Looking” “Funny” “Perfect” “Intelligent” and “A role model”.

Oh wait, those were all from my grandma, but still…

9.) If you could have dinner with 4 people, living or dead, who would it be? Why?

Ellen DeGeneres, Obama, Einstein, and Taylor Swift. Can you imagine the dinner conversation? Obama would be talking politics, Einstein would be trying to prove Obama wrong, Taylor swift would ask them all on a date and then break up with them all to write a song, and Ellen would be making fun of them all. That’s what I call a good time.

10.) What celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee?

As you can probably guess, Ellen DeGeneres. (I kinda like her…….alot.) Ellen is soooo incredible. Ellen helps TONS of charities, has an incredible talk show, shes hillarious, down to earth, has won many many many awards, and is such an inspiration to be yourself and never take no for an answer. Listen, I could go on forever, but I’m sure those of you who are still reading this have big plans this afternoon.

Now, a question for you guys! Answer in the comments:

If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be?

Its my life and ill do what I want to.

Honestly, I’m tired. I’m tired of living in a society that pressures everyone into being the same. I’m tired of living in a society, specifically my generation, that has such a sense of entitlement and a lack of work ethic that they expect everything to be handed to them. I’m tired of growing up in a generation that is full of discrimation against gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, and ethnicity. This is NOT ok.

Growing up, I was always taught to accept people for who they are. My mom always told me that everyone is special in their own way so don’t judge someone before you really get to know them and know what they’ve been through. When I reached middle school, I was horrified. I was so confused as to how everyone could be so mean to each other. How could anyone call people names so harsh? Names that I had never even heard of up until that point in my life! And the teachers? They didn’t care. “This is part of growing up” “Get over it” “What am I supposed to do about it” “Well, if I didn’t see it, then it didn’t happen”… Seriously? You have people killing themselves over this type of thing, and you think there’s nothing you can do about it? C’mon now.

The biggest problem I have with this generation is how judgmental we are. We are judged by what we wear, what we say, our skin color, sexual orientation, gender, religion, everything! We are living in a life of technology where nothing is private anymore. If you want to know something about someone, all you have to do is look them up on Facebook or do a quick google search of their name, and BAM! Everything you could ever want to know about someone is right in front of you.

I believe that everyone should be able to express themselves any way they want. If you want to wear a cowboy hat with a short glittery skirt and a green shirt with a giraffe on it, then go ahead! But no, because if you did that, then people would hardcore judge you. They would point out all your flaws and make you feel like trash, just to make themselves feel better. People are becoming so insecure about themselves that they have to point out every little thing that is different than the “social norm” just to get a sense of satisfaction. Who cares if someone is gay? Who cares what skin color someone is? Who cares what someone decides to wear? Last time I checked, they didn’t wake up to please YOU.

OK, so now that I’ve vented a little bit, let’s get to the point. Everyone should be able to do what they want without being in fear of what other people think. I may only be one person, but I am making a stand against all of this because I can’t go on any longer watching this.

This is my first blog post, EVER! I think this will be fun, so gimme a follow to stay in touch with me!
